Share the Love with Bugs This Valentine's Day

Cindy Mannes Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer

With the most romantic day of the year upon us many of us are thinking of hearts, flowers and chocolate covered candies, but certainly not pests!  However, we do think there are a few that you should save some of that love for! Romantic in nature and even pretty cute, the five loveable bugs listed below also provide a few benefits so let's show them we care!

Ladybugs are a perennial favorite and always at the top of our list of beneficial pests! Not only do they bring good luck but they also feed on aphids, which can damage your garden. Some avid gardeners even purchase ladybugs to use them as a sustainable solution to keeping their garden thriving and beautiful.

And, what could be more romantic than a warm summer night collecting fireflies? These friendly pests use a soft glow to attract new mates. They are usually found in humid climates, especially near ponds, streams and marshes.

We have a lot of love for the beautiful four-winged dragonfly because they feed on summer's most notorious pest, the mosquito. Unchanged since dinosaurs roamed the earth, dragonflies are usually found living and breeding near sources of standing water.

The cricket's unique way of mating might just make them the most romantic insect of all. Only the male crickets chirp and in their quest to find the perfect soul mate they produce an orchestra of romantic ballads. After a successful mating they will even chirp a song of celebration.

Last but certainly not least, there are so many reasons why we love the honeybee! This very social pest is not only responsible for producing honey but it also pollinates more than 100 different crops across the United States, including apples, nuts, soybeans and squash. Additionally, they pollinate beautiful flowers, which we enjoy on Valentine's Day.

We hope this information put some very loveable bugs in a new light because everyone deserves some love this Valentine's Day - Even Bugs!
