Take back your yard this spring protect your family and home from dangerous fire ants!

Shay Runion

If you've ever wandered too close to a fire ant nest in your yard, chances are you have experienced one or more of their very painful stings in a matter of seconds. Just one sting is painful and usually results in a welt, but these ants are highly organized and work together, so in most cases, the encounters aren't limited to just one sting.

With the arrival of spring and warmer temperatures, unfortunately comes the arrival of red imported fire ants. Discovering a colony of fire ants is a serious situation that requires immediate expert attention since they are extremely territorial and will attack anyone that comes near their nest. As temperatures in our area heat up this week, we have already begun to receive more customer calls about fire ant activity on their property.

Fire ants build their telltale nest mounds outdoors in soil and landscape areas near a structural foundation and they frequently infest garages. Fire ants and their telltale mound nests should be actively avoided and homeowners should seal all internal and external cracks and crevices to prevent entry into the structure.

Be vigilant and look for the telltale signs and get the help of experts with specialized training so you can rid your yard of these pests and safeguard your family and enjoy your property to the fullest all spring and summer.
